That old airplane is a fantastic CAS platform. It is a precision all weather attack aircraft and can carry many different kinds of munitions. Maximum bomb load is 6- 2000 lb (mk 84)!! Bad part was, they flew 'em air to air and over g'ed them on a regular basis resulting in cracks developing in the wings. Last of the US inventory went to the boneyard at DM in '92. Many were sold to other countries. I hope mine did. It was a good ship and landed at AMARC code 1...LOL.

The main reson why nations still use old airplane types is that it takes longer to train pilots then it does to buy new planes.So when things tends to look more hostile its just to buy new planes and educate their pilots on the new systems.Instead of both buying new airplanes and train new pilots, witch have minor training.This is just my explanation. I cant speak for every nation, but its just my oppinion.

Rubbish. The F-35, Typhoon and Gripen are all multirole aircraft and can be used for either Air-to-Air and Close Air Support missions. And eventhough the A-7 was specifically developed for ground attack/CAS, it was so in a time when avionics/computers wheren't as sofisticated as today. So all of the above mentioned would out perform the A-7. Which, in itself, is a lovely aircraft.

Γιατί, ποιος σου είπε ότι το Rafale, το ΕF, το Sukhoi 30, όλα αυτά τα καταφέρνουν καλύτερα από το A-7 σε αποστολές εγγύς υποστήριξης; Αντιθέτως, τα μόνα συγκρίσιμα είναι το A-10 και το Su-25.Για όσους δεν ξέρουν, τα EF και Rafale αναπτύχθηκαν ως μαχητικά εναέριας υπεροχής. Οι Γάλλοι σκέφτηκαν ότι θα έπρεπε να μπορεί να μεταφέρει και οπλισμό κρούσης, όπως και γίνεται στην έκδοση Trance 3. Το EF από την άλλη, πέρυσι άφησε την πρώτη βόμβα δοκιμαστικά.
